Event Guide

In 1973 two friends, Bill Miller and Chip Miller (no relation) devised a plan to start an automotive event that served the interests of “car people like us.” Less than a year later in September of 1974, on a rented Carlisle PA Fairgrounds, their vision and a company called the "Fleamarketeers" came to life with an event known as Post War ’74. 50 years later, Post War ’74 (now Fall Carlisle) and the Fleamarketeers (now Carlisle Events) are thriving and stronger than ever.  

Join us as we celebrate 50 years of Carlisle Events in 2024! The celebration spans the entirety of the 2024 Carlisle Events car show season. When you come to our shows this year, you’ll notice commemorative signage, merchandise, photos, and more! Each show will have a unique ode to the 50th Anniversary, so be sure you check out the event guide per show! Debuting in 2024 is the ALL- NEW Carlisle Events Historical Timeline Wall located in Building T that will be completed by Spring Carlisle.

As we wrap up our once-in-a-lifetime 50^th Anniversary season, we invite you to celebrate with us one last time at Fall Carlisle and visit with us in Building T.  Our “Carlisle Corner” will include a small show car display, complete with a few collector cars direct from the personal collections of Bill Miller and Lance Miller.  Cars won’t be the only thing on display.  Our team has curated an impressive gallery of Carlisle items spanning our 50 years.  Some of those items are already on display in the cool-down room (also in Building T), but we’ll unbox even more stickers, hats, shirts, collectibles, pictures, signage, etc. to showcase key items from our company’s past.  In addition, we’ll have a variety of overstock merchandise for sale spanning not only our events in 2024 but from past years too.  Further, copies of David Snyder’s official 50^th Anniversary commemorative print will be available too.   The holiday season is right around the corner.  Be sure to visit our corner, plus our friends within the Carlisle Store to pick up your Carlisle merchandise and see for one last time this year, some amazing pieces of our company history on display.

Jimmy Rosen, a local author, automobilia collector, and former owner of the “Old Sled Works” in Duncannon, PA is confirmed for Fall Carlisle.  Rosen will be in Building T with the Stuckeymobile and have copies of his book, "Lost Service Stations of Central Pennsylvania" available too.  Rosen will be hanging out Wednesday through Sunday in Building T.  His Stuckeymobile is a must-see, not just because it represented the famed Stuckey's brand, but because he built it.  That's right, Rosen connected with Stephanie Stuckey and suggested he convert his 1948 Crosley station wagon into what we'll see at Fall Carlisle.  Rosen didn't just build it, he used it as a promotional vehicle in Delaware and PA to promote Stuckey's and their tasty treats during the summer of 2023.  Meet Jimmy Rosen, see the Stuckeymobile, enjoy a sample of their famous log rolls, and pick up a copy of his book.  If you buy a book, he'll be happy to autograph it for you too.

With Fall Carlisle closing the season, the 8,100 vending spaces onsite are going to once again be filled with collector car memorabilia, merchandise, literature and more. In addition, the car corral will fill with cars spanning automotive history.

Gates open at 7AM on Wednesday and we welcome a nonstop slew of vendors and enthusiasts from the world over, all preparing for one of the best collector car events in the world, Fall Carlisle. Standard gate admission and parking apply, but the nature of the day allows for more shopping space, a more personal interaction with vendors as well as getting a true lay of the land for the remaining event days. This day also serves as a preview day for the two-day auction taking place at the nearby Carlisle Expo Center and presented by Carlisle Auctions.

Within the swap meet, you can find vintage signs and even car parts that maybe aren’t usable anymore but would make great “wall art.” Additionally, we have many vendors who craft their own automotive art.

These craftsmen make things like sculptures from old car parts, desk lamps from valve covers, benches from truck tailgates and so much more. There seems to be no limit to what these people can create, and these works of art make the coolest display items. There is no shortage of cool Shop Art at Fall Carlisle but if you can’t find what you want, you can most likely find the pieces to create your own.

The car corral is where individuals offer vehicles for sale (no parts, etc). Find classic to late-model vehicles in all varieties of make, model and condition. You can shop, compare and make the deal directly with the owner. Notary Service will be available. If you need anything else for the purchase of a vehicle, our staff in Guest Services can provide a contact list. If you are a car corral vendor or would like to become one, be sure to take advantage of the following offers:

Most car enthusiasts have a natural interest in almost anything mechanical and almost definitely in anything self-propelled. We put engines on coolers and barstools! So, it’s hard to deny that if you’re into cars, you’re probably into other modes of transportation. That includes motorcycles, ATVs, scooters, go-karts, campers, mopeds, boats, planes, trains and so on. To accommodate this general interest in almost anything with an engine and/or wheels, we’ve opened up some vending spaces for those under the "Anymotive" umbrella.

If you’re looking for a place to buy or sell any of the above-mentioned vehicles or corresponding parts and accessories, this is the place for you. This is the place to sell any vehicle that’s not the traditional car, truck, van or SUV as well as parts for those vehicles. If you’re in the market for a motorcycle, trike, ATV/UTV, side-by-side, bicycle, golf cart, airplane, boat, snowmobile, camper, barstool with an engine or whatever your interest may be, this is the place to buy or sell it.

The thrill of the hunt is alive and well at Fall Carlisle every Fall, but did you know that in addition to the cars available within the car corral, Carlisle Auctions offers a two-day collector car auction on Thursday and Friday of the show? It's true! In fact, Carlisle Auctions runs 400+ lots across the block and many are consigned under the "Free Unless Sold" guarantee*.

The guarantee means any consigned collector car (25 years or older) that does not sell as part of the auction will see most of the registration fees refunded to the consignee. Certain exceptions apply.

Carlisle Auctions also offers special "featured vehicle" slots. These slots are limited, but if selected, will be positioned within the Carlisle Expo Center. When applying to consign, select "featured vehicle" within the registration paperwork. At that point, the Carlisle Auctions' team will make a determination on inclusion.

If accepted, an additional $300 featured vehicle fee will apply. If the featured consignment doesn't sell, only the consignment fee is refunded (call 717-960-6400 for details).

The auction offers decades of past, present, and future classics. From white glove, best of show consignments, to head turning daily drivers, you'll see it all!

This year Ronald McDonald House Central Valley is raffling a 2024 Corvette Stingray, a 1962 Corvette, a beautifully restored 1970 Chevelle SS, and even a Hawaii Getaway Package. Proceeds from their fundraiser will go towards providing a “Home Away From Home” for families while their children are being treated in a local hospital. Each room at the Central Valley Ronald McDonald House has two queen size beds, private restroom and satellite TV. Carlisle Events hasn’t forgotten that sometimes it’s nice to take a break from automotive shopping. Join our amazing vendors and artisans selling items such as handmade crafts, jewelry and accessories, kitchen must-haves, unique clothing, treats to temp you, scents to relax you, beauty products and so much more! 

The Carlisle PA Fairgrounds is a large footprint that can be a challenge at times, even for the most experienced attendee. 82 acres, 16+ miles of paved roadway, vendors and cars everywhere…it’s easy to understand how you may start wondering to yourself “where did I see that part or car I want to buy?” “How do I get my purchase from its space to my truck?” “How am I going to do this?” 

Never fear, because we’ve compiled a helpful list of ways that enhance your on-site experience at Carlisle! Thanks for joining us and enjoy your time at the show!

1. BRING CASH - The more the better. It’s hard to negotiate a deal without being able to pay.
2. WEAR COMFORTABLE SHOES - It’s a lot of walking.
3. SUN BLOCK/DRINK LIQUIDS - You’ll be in the sun all day. It’s important to protect yourself and stay hydrated, especially if your weekend outdoors is your first prolonged exposure to the sun for the year.
4. REMEMBER THE SPACE - Take a picture of the space location or write it down. Every space at Carlisle has a disk to designate the space. Look down and you’ll see the space marker. Write down the letter and number. Don’t try to remember the space or the surrounding area. You’ll spend the rest of the day looking for it.
5. COME EARLY - Rare parts and great deals typically happen for the first person to find them. Set up day(s) and the first day of the event are for the serious shoppers.
6. ACT FAST - If you see a great deal, grab it. If you plan to come back later, it will probably be gone.
7. NEGOTIATE - It’s a flea market so don’t be afraid to make a REASONABLE offer.
8. EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED - Chances are good that you will find something you weren’t planning to find, so keep your eyes open.
9. LOOK EVERYWHERE - Even if you are looking for parts for your brand of vehicle, don’t walk past the vendor selling parts for other models or generations just because you assume there’s no way the vendor has what you want. Give their space a look too. They might not only have it, it may be cheap since it’s not what they typically sell.
10. USE THE CARLISLE EVENTS APP - Use the FREE Carlisle Events app to easily find your way back to a vendor (if you know the row and space). You can also use it to check activity schedules, register for other events, connect with fellow enthusiasts via social media, browse a digital copy of the event guide and more.
11. STAY LATE – There are always deals at Carlisle, but sometimes the best ones happen early on day 1 of a show, or late on its final day. Vendors are typically more willing to negotiate when they are packing up – especially large items.
12. BRING A SHOPPING LIST - Our memories aren’t as good as we think. Write it down. You can even make a list on your phone. Take pictures of what you need.
13. BRING A BAG, CART, ETC. - Parts will get heavy so have a way to carry your purchases. Ask the seller if you can leave heavy parts until later.
14. HAVE IT HAULED - Carlisle Events offers FREE* parts hauling. Keep that in mind if you’re looking at an engine, transmission, truck bed, etc.
15. FREE TAXI SERVICE – Need to get from point A to point B but don’t feel like walking it? Carlisle Events offers a FREE* taxi service. Dial 717-960-6429 to secure a ride. 
16. ASK! - If someone has parts for a vehicle but not the ones you need, ask if the seller has it. It might still be in his truck or at home. Even if he doesn’t, he might know someone who does.
17. KNOW THE VALUE - Do some homework on the parts you’re looking for so you know if the price is a good deal.
18. AVOID THE CROWDS - When you arrive, go to an out-of-the-way area to start rather than following the herd.
19. WALK IT ALL - Don’t miss any rows. The Carlisle Fairgrounds isn’t a perfect grid so make sure you hit every row and space.
20. ADVERTISE - Wear a hat, shirt or signboard that spotlights what you’re looking for.  It just might create a conversation, especially if what you’re searching for is obscure and/or rare. 

*While parts hauling and taxi service are free, donations are graciously accepted.  Donated money goes directly to the Chip Miller Amyloidosis Foundation. 

 

Help those in need at most events this season.  Give generously to members of local Lions Clubs as they staff our gates (varies by event) and accept donations for their Lions Vision Initiative program.  They'll also be at the Carlisle Truck Nationals in August with their custom wrapped big rig, again accepting donations as well as offering free vision screening for guests age 12 and under.  The screenings can help identify any markers or abnormalities that may prompt a parent to further the results to an optometrist. 

Look for Lions in a yellow vest with a black donation tin in hand.  Last year, with your support, $7,000 was raised and donated for Lions International Disaster Relief Efforts.  This year, your support benefits their vision initiative.  Can’t donate in person?  Learn more about the Lions program online by way of the links below.
