Celebrity Corvettes Join the Tens of Thousands of Corvette Enthusiasts in

CarlisleCorvettes at Carlisle 2009: August 28-30 at the Carlisle PA Fairgrounds

Monday, August 17, 2009

Corvettes at Carlisle, the largest and most prestigious Corvette event in the world, will motor back to the Carlisle PA Fairgrounds this week. Joining the thousands of Corvettes and tens of thousands of Corvette enthusiasts are some very special “celebrity” Corvettes, making their Carlisle debut. One is a new school euro winner. The other is straight Philly with some Hollywood flair.

2009 Le Mans GT1 Class Winner:

It was important for Corvette Racing and Pratt & Miller Engineering to leave Le Mans with a win and that’s just what they did. The #63 Corvette fought a very tough fight for Corvette’s 16th podium finish at Le Mans since 2000. The reason for the importance of the win, in addition to Le Mans being the world’s largest sports car race, is that the this race marked the end of Corvette Racing participation in GT1 racing. Johnny O'Connell, Jan Magnussen and Antonio Garcia scored Corvette Racing's sixth class victory at Le Mans, completing 342 laps, racing to a six-lap margin of victory over the No. 73 Luc Alphand Aventures Corvette C6.R of Yann Clairay, Julien Jousse and Xavier Maassen. O'Connell became the first American driver to win four class titles in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The #63 Compuware Corvette C6.R, the latest Le Mans Corvette champion, will be among many other legendary Le Mans Corvettes as part of the Chip’s Choice Display, celebrating Corvettes that have raced in the legendary Le Mans endurance race. The special display is named after the late Chip Miller, owner and co-founder of Carlisle Events. Chip was the brain behind the very first Corvettes at Carlisle and made it a point to highlight one aspect of the Corvette hobby each year in his Chip’s Choice display.

Live 8/CFM C5 Corvette:

On July 2, 2005 the city of Philadelphia was the site for Live 8 – People gathered to not only see the bands performing but to help support the fight against Global AIDS/Poverty. Michael Selvanto, CEO of CFMMUSIC.COM and his wife Sheri Selvanto had another vision to help propel this message. On that historic day in Philadelphia, a white Corvette emerged as the official LIVE 8 car. Selvanto had performers and celebrities signing the car to show their support for the cause being celebrated. Over 40 signatures are on the Corvette: Paula Abdul, Jon Bon Jovi, Jimmy Smits, Chris Tucker, Richie Sambora, Dave Matthews, Def Leppard, Linkin Park, Kaiser Chiefs, Will Smith, Josh Groban, Al Sharpton, Russel Simmons, Don Cheadle and many more. The Live 8 Corvette will tour concerts and public gathering across the country this year, to gather more celebrity signatures and to make sure no one forgets the cause: publicizing Global Aids and Poverty Awareness. One of the first stops will be here at Corvettes at Carlisle where the Live 8 Corvette will not only be recognized on the Carlisle Stage for the signatures but for the car behind them as well, a beautiful white C5.

In addition to special Corvettes, guests, unveilings and giveaways Corvettes at Carlisle will feature a 1959 Corvette reunion, Autocross – sponsored by the Cumberland County Corvette Club – Chip Miller Charitable Foundation Silent Auction, NCRS Gallery IX, Installation Alley on the Manufacturers Midway, Downtown Carlisle Corvette Parade, a Corvette Corral with hundreds of Corvettes for sale, Women’s Oasis and Kids at Carlisle Activities.
