Carlisle All-Truck Nationals 2009: August 7-9 at the Carlisle PA Fairgrounds

Service Men will Return Home to Transformed Trucks as Winner’s of the 2UP Selection

Wednesday, August 05, 2009

The 2009 Carlisle All-Truck Nationals is one of the largest specialty, off-road and collector truck oriented events in the world. Representing all aspects of the collector truck hobby will be over 2,000 trucks, everything from Mini Trucks with the frames dragging the street to Monster Trucks crushing tiny compact cars.

The 1UP, 1down truck transformation is an aspect of the All-Truck Nationals that Carlisle Events has hosted for over three years. In years past, two brand-new trucks were customized – one jacked up with a lift and off-road wheels and tires package – the other, lowered and hooked up with custom street wheels and tires. This year Carlisle Events, host of the Carlisle All-Truck Nationals, decided to open the program up to the public, soliciting videos from truck owners who thought they deserved the giveaway re-vamp for their beloved truck.

According to Ed Scholly, Event Manager for the All-Truck Nationals the submissions were initially slow. “Considering what we were giving away, we expected to be overwhelmed with people who would love a free truck face lift.” Scholly went on, “In the end, I think it worked out and was meant to be because we couldn’t have hoped for two more deserving truck owners.”

Two submissions that came in last minute were for Trevor Kent and his 2005 Ford F150. Kent, from Carlisle, is a Marine Corp 1st Sergeant, who has already served more than one tour overseas. The other submission was also from a local hero, James Graver (Carlisle, PA) and his 2007 Toyota Tundra. Graver is an Army Sergeant who is currently serving in Taji, Iraq. He is in the 56th Striker Brigade and it was his friends who actually submitted his truck for the makeover, which says a lot about the folks who are waiting for Graver to come home.

Initially Carlisle Events did not think they would be able to choose both Kent and Graver because they both had trucks that would be lifted as part of the 1UP aspect of the two truck transformation. Once the stories of the soldiers were related to the sponsors of the 1UP aspect of 1UP, 1down, the partners at Skyjacker, Mickey Thompson, More Than Tires and A&A Auto Parts came up with a solution. Hook ‘em both UP; make it the 2UP display!
Each truck will receive 3” Skyjacker lift kits, Mickey Thompson wheels and tires from More Than Tires, Extang Tonneau Cover, BedRug bed liner and more. The modifications of the 2UP trucks will take place inside of Building T during the Carlisle All-Truck Nationals weekend. Attendees will have the chance to witness the entire process with an unveiling and presentation on Saturday afternoon. Carlisle Events and the sponsors of the 2UP will present the modified trucks to friends and family of 1st Sergeant Trevor Kent and Sergeant James Graver. Their vehicles will be turned over to family representatives on Sunday afternoon.
